Let Me Play: The Story of Title IX

Thank you so much for telling this story! If not for this book, I would have never known how difficult it was for women to gain equal rights in sports and education. I've always taken those rights for granted, but I won't anymore. I was truly inspired by the supporters (especially the women) who worked tirelessly to ensure that this amendment became a law. Your book serves as a glorious tribute to their continuous efforts to ensure that girls have the same opportunities as boys. Submitted by Kathy Seidel

  1. I would also like to extend my appreciation to acclaimed author, Ms. Karen Blumenthal, for the work and hours dedicated to the research and creation of this book. Throughout grade school, I was briefly exposed to prominent figures in the struggle for equal rights for all women. I must admit however, that with each passing year I’ve lost sight of that struggle and have taken many opportunities, especially educational opportunities, for granted. This book is outstanding in that not only are those prominent figures, who I’ve learned about in grade school relived; there is also the inclusion of several more women, who I’ve never even knew about. After reading this book, I learned of many more women, who also played a part in the struggle for equal rights. I appreciate that this book provides much more detailed information of that struggle. I agree with those, who express that this book “would be a wonderful addition to school and public libraries”. I stated earlier that I was “briefly” exposed for especially now, after reading this book, I now know that my grade school lessons barely skimmed the surface. Again, thank you! 2. I loved this book. It shows that women have taken great strides to be treated equally. This book showed that women fought for equal rights in sports, educaction, work, voting, and civil rights. Women like Susan B. Anthony, Myra Bradwell, Rosa Parks, Lisa Leslie, and Billy Jean King showed that women can achieve anything. Even though women still fight to be treated equally in some areas this books shows that we have made great strides. This book would be a wonderful read for young girls and women everywhere. submitted by Angela Golden

  3. I was engrossed by Let Me Play! I had heard of Title IX but had never understood the mindset that was predominant even in the 1970s. It gave me new insight into the lives of many of my personal heroines. I suppose I really have taken the opportunities I have been given for granted! I am indebted to the many strong women, such as Ms. Mink and Ms. Green, who came before me. The United States has come a long ways, although serious discrepancies between men and women still exist in many areas. I can’t wait to share this book with others.

  4. I could not put down Let ME Play! Being a fellow athelete myself, I applaud the fight these women fought in order for me to be able to play any sport I choose. This book should be recommended for all girls to read as it would definitely inspire them as it has inspired me. I will definitely be sharing this book with others. I really appreciate your hard work on researching this very important topic and informing all who read it.
